The certified prosthetist (CP) evaluates, designs, and fabricates artificial limbs or prostheses.
Persons who have experienced amputations due to accidents, congenital problems, or disabling
diseases such as diabetes,
are assisted by the prosthetist in the effort to restore mobility and function.
A physician's prescription is required by your prosthetist for your prosthesis. Utilizing this
prescription, your prosthetist will work with you to design or select a prosthesis that will best
suit your needs. Your prosthesis will be fabricated by our prosthetist and technicians at our
facility and you will receive training in the use and care of your prosthesis.
Working with your physician, nurse, or physical or occupational therapist, your
prosthetist is a key member of your rehabilitation team in your continuing development and progress
to recovery. Periodic adjustments and evaluations of your progress are an important feature of your
long-term relationship with your prosthetist. At Plattner Orthopedic Company, your prosthetist is
available to provide care when you need assistance.
Orthotists and prosthetists at Plattner Orthopedic Company are certified by the
American Board for
Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc., (ABC). A certified practitioner can be identified
by the credentials CP (prosthetics), CO (orthotics), or CPO (prosthetics and orthotics).
Our prosthetists are also members of ISOP,
(Illinois Society of Orthotists and Prosthetists),
AOPA, (American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association), and AAOP,
(American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists).
