Artificial Leg

Artificial Legs At Plattner Orthopedic Company

Plattner Orthopedic Company

An artificial leg is known in medicine as a prosthesis. For the amputee, function can be greatly enhanced with a prosthesis that is custom made and fitted by certified prosthetists and technicians like those on staff at Plattner Orthopedic Company. We can provide an artificial leg or other prosthesis to patients in Central Illinois, including the cities of Peoria, Bloomington, Galesburg, Princeton, LaSalle-Peru, and Macomb and surrounding areas.

Artificial Leg and other Prosthetic Jargon

A prosthetic device is named according to the level of the amputation.

Some examples:

BK - Below Knee Prosthesis - Artificial leg for the patient with a trans-tibial amputation.

AK - Above Knee Prosthesis - Artificial leg for the patient with a trans-femoral amputation.

Symes Prosthesis - Artificial leg for the patient with a an amputation through the ankle.

BE - Below Elbow Prosthesis - Artificial arm for the patient with a trans-radial amputation.

AE - Above Elbow Prosthesis - Artificial arm for the patient with a trans-humoral amputation.

Shoulder Disarticulation Prosthesis - Artificial shoulder and arm for the patient with a shoulder amputation.

Well... there's a lot more to it, but that's the basic idea.
